In the city of Rotterdam, Filomena, the Center for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse, unique in the Netherlands recently started for the region of Rotterdam-Rijnmond. Aim is a multidisciplinary partnership in the field of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual violence, working closely together under one roof, in a one-stop shop setting.

Filomena is highly accessible for the client (both victim and perpetrator), offering a safe, warm place where questions and worries can be addressed. FJC Sterk Huis, Tilburg

Visit @ Sterk Huis, Tilburg

Sterk Huis provides a warm and save place for women, children and men who are victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual violence, honor related violence and human trafficking. The participants will get to know the women’s shelter and the variety of possibilities provided. The team members will share their knowledge and experience and are also very curious to exchange experience with the participants.

Sterk Huis provides a warm and save place for women, children and men who are victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual violence, honor related violence and human trafficking. Our mission is to provide every individual the best possible care. Our treatment and support is provided to the whole system in order to change the process of violence which mostly exist for several generations.

That means that we give the best treatment and diagnostics possible from a psycho-trauma based Centre. We invest in a better future by offering the possibility of work experience and learning activities. We acknowledge the vulnerability of women and children in this society. Sterk Huis is initiator of the program Smart Start. Parents and children deserve the best chances for a good future. With this in mind, we must invest in the timely identification of risks and the prevention of major problems.

After all, we can often see many problems in families coming. We usually wait until problems are very big, only then to deploy help. We develop a working method in which data and knowledge are used to identify (risks of) complex problems in children and families at an early stage. By using design thinking we arrive at collective and preventive solutions.

The participants of the visit will get to know the women shelter and the variety of possibilities which we provide. You'll meet experience experts who are willing to tell about their experiences. We will share our knowledge and experience in different colleges and are also very curious to exchange experience with you.

FJC Fier, Leeuwarden

Visit @ Fier Friesland, Leeuwarden

Fier offers assistance to children, young people and adults who are, or have been, confronted by violence such as domestic violence, sexual violence or honor related violence.

The study- and work visit will give a deeper insight in the work of Fier: f.e. the anonymous shelter Blijf, the psycho trauma center that is specialized in diagnosing and treatment and the Center for Child Human Trafficking.

Fier is the national expertise and treatment center in the field of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse and exploitation. Fier offers assistance to children, young people and adults who are, or have been, confronted by violence such as domestic violence, sexual violence or honor related violence.

Fier offers help and safety, but we do much more than that. We look beyond people’s problems, knowing that their problems do not define who they are. We ask: Who are you? What is your dream? What can we help you with? Education and work are often part of the best ‘therapy’ that our children, adolescents and(young) adults can get: participating in society and offering a meaningful contribution, instead of being excluded. For us and our clients, everything starts with a dream. At Fier we always ask our clients: what do you dream about? And often the answer is very ‘simple’: a safe life. A family.

A diploma. A little house of their own. These are the dreams of boys and girls, men and women who have had a rough start in life. Of young people who were not safe in their own homes or their immediate surroundings. Of adults who saw violence pass from one generation to the next. Of children who, for the first time in their lives, do not have to be afraid. Of boys and girls who were never allowed to make their own choices. Fier cannot do it alone. Violence is a large and urgent social problem that can only be tackled through cooperation. Together with colleagues from other care and safety institutions, but also with partners from other sectors, including the business community.

The study- and work visit will give a deeper insight in the work of Fier, by example:

  • The anonymous shelter Blijf where women and children, victims of domestic violence who are in direct danger, are accommodated.
  • The psycho trauma center that is specialized in diagnosing and treatment.
  • The Center for Child Human Trafficking (CKM) that continues conduct research into this phenomenon. By combining practice and research, we can combat this modern form of slavery even more effectively.
