FJC Mechelen (Belgium) celebrated 5 years

May 23, 2022

FJC Mechelen, Belgium, celebrated her 5th birthday on 23 of May 2022. NGO's, police, the prosecutor's office and the Flemish government and the local authorities of the 12 municipalities in the Rivierenland region work closely together to offer a costume-made approach towards victims of domestic violence and their families. In those five years, 1,749 families have been helped by the FJC.

In 2020 and 2021, the FJC has seen an enormous increase in new registrations. In 2020 and 2021, the number of files doubled for two years in a row, to about 700 new files in 2021. "What we have also done in those 5 years is to ensure that we get people on the radar. It is and remains a phenomenon that often happens indoors, and also keeps in. Many people find it very difficult to come out with that, which is understandable," says coordinator Karen Casier of FJC Mechelen.
