Project 'Intimate Partner Violence in Pregnancy'

The colleagues of FJC Milan and the Italian Focal Point of the EFJCA worked with the EFJCA grant of 2025 on a project about the intimate partner violence during pregnancy. The closing conference of this “Intimate Partner Violence in Pregnancy” project took place on 9 April at the University of Milan.

Wide range of professionals

The event brought together a wide range of professionals around a highly relevant and sensitive topic: addressing intimate partner violence during pregnancy. The project was implemented by the Fondazione Guzzetti and SVSeD (Soccorso Violenza Sessuale e Domestica) of the Clinica Mangiagalli, the Milanese FJC. It offered a valuable opportunity for exchange, reflection, and collaboration.

The conference

The conference targeted professionals in the medical, healthcare, and psychosocial fields. This included midwives, gynecologists, healthcare assistants, and staff in maternal and child services. Contributions were delivered by Alessandra Kustermann, Pascale Franck, Giussy Barbara, Laila Micci, Paola Gezzi and Michele Rabaiotti. They shared insights on screening for violence during pregnancy. They also highlighted the need for a more integrated, multidisciplinary response within the Family Justice Center model.

SDtrong and impactful initiative

Overall, the project stands out as a strong and impactful initiative. It contributes to greater awareness and better support for (expectant) mothers experiencing violence. The results highlight the importance of early detection and coordinated care. A link to the project’s key findings will soon be shared on the EFJCA website. This will make the knowledge accessible to a wider audience.
