Bio John Doyle

John worked for the Men’s Development Network (MDN) for 20 years and was Director of Services with responsibility for the Mend Programme for men who were violent/abusive within their intimate partner relationships, the Male Advice Line for Male Victims of Domestic Abuse and the MDN Counselling Service.

He continues to work in the field as a Consultant, Supervisor and Trainer. John has trained in body-oriented Psychotherapy and has an MA in Spirituality and is in Private Practice at the Keystone Clinic.

Presentation 'Optimizing the potential for sustainable behaviour change in work with Perpetrators'

Working towards sustainable behaviour change for men who perpetrate domestic violence/abuse provides a unique challenge to individuals and organisations involved in the delivery of Domestic Violence Intervention Programmes.

With so many influences and expectations from external stakeholders how do Facilitators and Programme Managers participate in this Governmental and Community response to Domestic Violence with the critical task of increasing safety of victim/survivors and children while staying present and open to uncovering and engaging with the core issues that influence individual men’s propensity to use violence, abuse and coercive control within their intimate partner relationships. In this context how can Programmes maximise the potential for change in their work.
